Beltre and Molina Win Rawlings Platinum Glove Award™ Fan Vote
ST. LOUIS, MO – November 11, 2011 – During the 2011 Rawlings Gold Glove Award® Ceremony presented by Gold Sport Collectibles event in New York tonight, Rawlings Sporting Goods Company, Inc., a subsidiary of Jarden Corporation (NYSE: JAH) announced the first-ever recipients of the fan-selected Rawlings Platinum Glove Award™ in each League: Texas third baseman Adrian Beltre and St. Louis catcher Yadier Molina.
Beltre received 29 percent of the vote to win the American League® with Boston center fielder Jacoby Ellsbury (20%) and second baseman Dustin Pedroia (10%) rounding out the top three. In the National League®, Molina captured 38 percent to best Cincinnati second baseman Brandon Phillips (17%) and Los Angeles center fielder Matt Kemp (15%) for the honor.
To determine the Rawlings Platinum Glove Award winners, fans could only vote for one player among the nine, 2011 Rawlings Gold Glove Award winners from each League as selected by Major League Baseball® managers and coaches.
Voting began at the conclusion of the 2011 Rawlings Gold Glove Award® winners announcement show on ESPN2’s “Baseball Tonight,” and the popular vote held on Rawlings Facebook page generated responses from all 50 states and 28 countries. ESPN’s Karl Ravech unveiled the winners live on stage at the Hollywood award show-type event format.
